April 21, 2005 SPORTS DAY………………Tomorrow is Sports Day. Students may wear jerseys, or St. Ann’s T-shirts with their uniform shorts, pants, skirts or jumpers. TRASH BAGS……………..Due to the increase in the price of petroleum the cost of the white and yellow trash bags will increase. We will sell them for $8.75 a roll. Our cost went up over a $1.00 a roll. NO SCHOOL – 4/29…….The staff will attend a staff development Literacy day on Friday, April 29th so there will be no school. We will offer Day Care if enough parents are interested. There is a sign up sheet on the book in the front hall of the school and in the Extended Day building. Please sign up if your child will be here. SPRING INTO SPRING….The students in PreK through Multiage will present their spring extravaganza next Tuesday evening at 7:00 at Fairmount Community Center. The community center is located at 608 S. Ash. The students will be walking to the center on Tuesday, April 26th for dress rehearsal. There is a permission slip in the envelope today for you to sign. Please return it tomorrow. We are asking each family to bring 2 dozen cookies for the reception after the play. They can be sent to school Tuesday morning or brought that night. PTO POSITIONS OPEN.......of volunteers to help with the fundraisers. You would take responsibility for one of the fundraisers for next year. If you are interested please contact the office. CANDY SALE……………..The World's Finest Chocolate candy sale continues. Due to the length of time that it is taking to get more candy, we are extending the date for selling. The sale will end on Thursday, May 5th. END OF YEAR STATEMENTS...........You will be receiving in the mail a statement with your financial obligations for the rest of the year. The only missing item will be what you have earned in the candy sale that is still going on. This amount must be taken care of before the end of the year. We can not give out report cards until all is paid. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY.....................The Michael Lillis Scholarship Award is being offered to 8th graders by the Kansas City Parochial League. The primary eligibility requirement is that the student must attend one of the Diocesan or Private High Schools. Each 8th grader is bringing an application home today. KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP...............Kindergarten Roundup will be held on Saturday, April 30th. If you know of families that have kindergarteners, please send their names to the office and we will inform them of this event. It will be held from 8:30 to 1:00. CONGRATULATIONS……............. **CONGRATULATIONS to Kevin Jonas, Brandon Raper, Antonio Generaux and Daniel Florido who will receive First Eucharist this weekend. Antonio and Brandon will be receiving it on Saturday, April 23 at the 4:00 mass at St. Ann’s. Daniel will receive his at the 11:00 mass on Sunday at St. Ann’s and Kevin at the 8:00am mass at St. Mary's Church. THE MAGIC IN ME………On Tuesday, May 10th the students in 5th through 8th grade will present the musical The Magic In Me. Equipped with nothing more than a toy shovel and pail, little Do-Nothing Dale appears to be a wizard in name only. Laughed at and excluded by her colleagues, Magnificent Mervin and Wonder Wanda, Dale sets out on a journey to find her own "little bit of magic". Queen Marilyn Melody of Musicland and Coco the Clown, King of Laughterland do their best to help her, but it’s not until her encounter with the Evil Weatherman on the Planet of Sad Flowers that Dale discovers just what it is that makes her unique. WOW! The new food pyramid is color coded to represent the food groups and exercise is included as well. The new slogan is "Steps to a healthier you." A website, www.pyramid.gov, offers personalized nutritional advice based on the 2005 dietary guidelines. Your needs may be different depending on age, gender, and activity level. It is now recommended to consume 5-13 servings of fruit and vegetables each day. Did you know that a man can reduce his chance of prostrate cancer by 45% by eating 10 servings of tomatoes each week? The middle school students will be bringing home the KC Star from Wednesday, April 20th which outlines the new guidelines. Please take some time to read these articles. SATURDAY BOWLING…....................Mark & Mary Ann Polina are sponsoring a Saturday Bowling Party on May 14th from 2:30 to 4:30 at Sterling Bowl, 11216 E. Highway 24. It will cost $6.00 to bowl non-stop for 2 hours and the cost includes shoes. There will be a flyer in your envelope on Thursday with more information. You can sign up a team of family or friends (sign up sheet in your envelope). Great raffle prizes: Boom Box, 2 tickets to the Royals plus parking pass and 3 family memberships to Science City. The students feasted on Tacos provided by Valerie and Chris Soule. It was great! **THANK YOU to the Foundation for Inclusive Religious Education (FIRE). We have received a $1,500 grant for educational resources for the 2005-2006 school year. FIRE is a foundation that was organized to insure that all special needs children who desire a Catholic education would have that opportunity. CLUBS FOR KIDS………..On Saturday, May 7th there will be a free Junior Golf Clinic and hands-on demonstration hosted by Tom Watson and Midwest Section PGA Pros. Registration begins at 9:00am. All registered kids will receive a free golf lesson and a free club and ball. The Clinic and free lesson will begin at 10:00 at the Blue River Golf Academy in Swope Park.
